THE WILDMAN OF CHINA

Most people are familiar with the yeti, a large hairy man-like creature, which is (1)________ to live in the Himalayas. (2)__________, you might not have heard of the “ yeren” or “ wildman” of China, which was mentioned and drawn for the first (3)________ more than 2,000 years ago. In the (4)______ 40 years there have been over 200 (5)____ of the yeren in the Shennongjia Nature Reserve in central Hubei province.

(6)________ the size of footprints which have been found, the yeren could weigh as much as 300 kilos. Those who (7)_________ to have been it have described it as approximately 1.6 meters tall, with long red hair, rounded eyes and a broad forehead. It also seems (8)__________ of an incredible range of calls and noises. When disturbed, it is said to sound like a dog, a wolf, a donkey and (9)_______ a crying child.

In 1980 a Chinese scientist (10)_________ up in a gorilla costume and entered a forest in the (11)_______ of getting a closer look at a yeren. Not surprisingly he failed, as have so many others who have gone in (12)__________ of this elusive creature.
